TIPS FOR GOOD SLIDES 1. Good slides are made with 35mm camera with manual focus. This permits you to show necessary detail. 2. Standard flash photos do not reproduce color accurately. 3. The best time / location for photography is outside, sunlight, (except in summer when overcast may be preferred, late in afternoon is just right.) Morning light is blue, mid-day sun is too bright, afternoon light has a warm cast. Choose a calm day and site so the quilt will not move. 4. The quilt should be flat with a plain background (no people or parts of people, no props, no fasteners showing.) 5. Be sure to get the entire quilt in the shot. Close-up may be taken of back or front to show quilting. 6. Take several shots to insure a good one and to have one for insurance purposes and/or your own records. 7. A good color negative can be made into a slide by most photo shops or departments but may take considerable time - plan accordingly. 8. Put your name, address, telephone number and the quilt’s name permanently on each slide mount. Also be sure to indicate which slide is supposed to be viewed up. Indicate with the word “top” (of quilt) or an arrow written on the appropriate slide mount edge. 9. Enclose slides in a plastic or cardboard sleeve for protection during mailing.
