SPECIAL EXHIBITS LIST 2009

Here is the advance info on what will be in our exhibits. We are still gathering information and will add to this list as we can to share a preview of what you'll be seeing in April! Check often!

1. Alumnae of the Quilt/Surface Design Symposium

Inspired by the Fabric

Quilts featuring the hand-dyed cotton sateen of German fabric Artist Heide Stoll-Weber created by the Alumnae of the Quilt/Surface Design Symposium. Having a gorgeous piece of special fabric often leads to a case of "Precious Fabric Syndrome." These artists went ahead and cut into their special fabrics. They hope that their efforts will encourage others to  do the same.

 2. APNQ    Living Colour

Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters

Forty-eight APNQ members from all over the region were invited to create, in fabric, their interpretation of Living Colour. Artistic expressions and construction techniques of unlimited variety were used for this theme of “Living Colour”. Though the quilts were limited to 24 x 36 inches in size, their makers were given complete freedom as to how they carried out their fiber interpretations of the stated theme. The results range from beautiful to thought provoking to hilarious, and give viewers a unique opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the best in contemporary quilt art.

3. Millwaukee Art Quilt Guild        On Point

The name of this challenge is taken from the traditional setting of blocks. However, the challenge is to interpret the words “on-point” in what ever way the artist wishes. In keeping with the traditional setting, the size is as follows: a 36 inch square created on the diagonal with another 36 inch square behind the diagonal but designed on a horizontal line. The quilt then measures 51 inches from opposing points. Members of this guild work with textiles in non-traditional ways. They may use paint, beads and dye their own fabrics. This challenge was made difficult by the need to support the top point of each quilt while hanging it from a horizontal rod. Each quilt met this challenge in different ways.

 4. NSQG              Going Green

Northern Star Quilters Guild

Participants are to interpret the word "green" any way they choose, but some recycled material must be used. The guild will award ribbons for the best use of recycled materials, the best use of the color green and the best environmental message.
