How you can say “YES MAM!”® Too!

The “Yes Mam!”® Mammogram Challenge enables quiltmakers everywhere to participate in increasing the availability of routine mammogram screening for women who could not otherwise afford them. Individuals and groups are challenged to create quilts in any design, using the “Yes Mam!"® fabric provided in the kit as a recognizable part of the design. Quiltmakers are encouraged to find a way to raise funds for free mammograms in their local communities by using both the construction process and the completed quilt in fundraising efforts.

Quiltmakers have traditionally used their art in socially significant ways, supporting community projects through quilts. While many innovative fundraising mechanisms are possible, below are some suggestions for getting started:
-Involve as many people as possible;
-sell the individual quilt blocks or signature squares (front and back of quilt may be used), possibly using the basic expense for a single mammogram as a goal for each block;
-have people make and donate blocks and funds as well; have a quilt-in marathon with sponsors supporting the quilters; have an auction or raffle.
-create a guild challenge with many quilts being made, and sell, auction, or raffle the results;
-have an exhibit of your efforts and charge admission;
-be bold in your approach; do your quilting in public, perhaps at the facility that will benefit from your donation.
-involve the media in promoting your project, or get it on the Internet.

(If laws in your area governing games of chance restrict your efforts, consider working through the imaging facility you will fund, as they are probably not-for-profit.)

The organizers of Quilters' Heritage Celebration’s “YES MAM!”® Mammogram Challenge hope that funds generated by your project will be used to provide free mammogram screenings for uninsured/underinsured women who are not eligible for assistance programs. However, the local fund-raising group is solely responsible for determining its recipient program or facility.
