Nancy Johnson-Srebro, of Tunkhannock, PA, had Grandma Garrison as a mentor when she made her first quilt in 1972. She asked her to cut a 6" square template from paper and pin it on some fabric. Using regular scissors, quite dull, Nancy cut around the paper template. After cutting about two dozen squares, she noticed some of the square were not the same size. Nancy called Gram and said, "My blocks don't seem to be the same size." Gram replied, "Are you cutting any of the paper template off when you cut around it?" Nancy replied, "No, only once in a while!" That was Nancy's first lesson in accuracy and it has stuck with her all these years. Today her hallmark is accuracy. She stresses it with students and attributes the wide recognition o fher work to its continued emphasis.

She has written several best-selling books including Featherweight 221-The Perfect Portable, Rotary Magic, Block Magic and Block Magic, Too!. In 2003 she developed her easy Diamond-Free method for making stars. This method eliminates the use of diamonds and Y-seams when making 8-pointed stars and Lone Stars. Her book, Stars by Magic, featuring this technique became an instant best seller. Her newest book, Big Block Quilts by Magic will be released Fall of 2006.

Nancy has been a spokeperson for Omnigrid, a division of Prym Consumer USA Inc., for over 16 years. Her rotary cutting classes have helped thousands of quilters improve their quiltmaking.

Nancy and her husband, Frank have three grown children and one granddaughter. She travels extensively to teach and lecture on the wonderful art of quiltmaking.
